Patek Philippe
Patek Philippe & Co is one of the most famous and exclussive manufacturers of wristwatches in the world. It is currently owned by the Stern family. In 1839, Antoni Patek and his Polish partner Franciszek Czapek started to produce pocket watches in Geneva. The two separated in 1844, and Patek formed another partnership with the French watchmaker Adrien Philippe. Philippe had invented a keyless winding mechanism. In 1851, Patek Philippe was founded, and in 1868, they produced their first wristwatch. Patek Philippe is the leading developer of functions and complications in the most exclussive watches today, such as perpetual calender, split-seconds-function, chronograph and minute repeater. The company has even manufactured quartz watches and digital watches. In 1989, Patek Philippe produced the Calibre 89 for the companys 150th anniversary. This watch is one of the most complicated mechanical watches ever made. It holds 33 different complications, such as the date of Easter, a thermometer, time of sunrise, equation of time, sidereal time and many others. The watch is also able to add a day to February for leap years while leaving out the extra day for every 100 year interval. Patek Philippe also produces a number of collectible watches. Over the 150 years of the companys history, Patek Philippe has manufactured around 600 000 watches in total, a bit less than the annual production of Rolex. The brand has been very popular among celebrities, such as Albert Einstein.
