Franck Muller
Watchmaker Franck Muller considers himself to be "the master of complications", and after a closer look at his finest work it is easy to understand this bold statement. Franck Muller was founded in 1992, and is one of the youngest companies in the luxury watch industry.
Franck Muller is well-known and well-established watchmaker based in Geneva. Celebrities like Elton John, Demi Moore and Robin Williams are often seen wearing a Franck Muller watch. He mixes the modern design with the traditional Swiss production methods. Unlike many other presidents of their own company, Franck Muller claims to design the mechanism of every watch by himself.
Franck Muller was born in Italy and graduated from the prestigeous school of watchmaking, Ecole d'horlogerie de Genève, in the early 1980's. After his graduation he supported himself by repairing exclussive pocket watches for museums and for private clients. It was during this period he came in contact with some of the most advanced timepieces ever made, and this inspired him to create his own workshop.
Franck Muller was especially interested in complications like Tourbillion, and started soon to produce his own Tourbillion wristwatches. At the time, in the end of the 1980's, Tourbillion watches were quite rare, and only a few watchmakers like Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin were able to produce them. Franck Muller continued to produce unique watches for private clients, but as his business grew, he realized that there was a market for watches with modern design and many advanced complications. The House of Franck Muller was opened in 1992, and the ultra complicated watches were a great success in USA and Europe.
Today, Franck Mullers collections includes watches like chronograph Endurance and MasterBanker. MasterBanker is a Tonneau watch with many complications like multiple time zones, and Curvex Minute Repeater Tourbillion with only 25 copies made every year. Oval Tonneau-shape is a common feature in many of the Franck Muller watches (Tonneau means thin in French).
